Camilla Prata

Camilla Prata, a 2017 Vision Fellow, graduated from the honors program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in May 2021. Having earned her undergraduate degree in nutrition and a minor in psychology, Camilla plans to enroll in medical school after gaining some experience in the field. Camilla was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard and attended the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School from kindergarten through 10th grade. She moved to the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School as a junior, where she played varsity tennis on the 2016 state championship team.

From 2017 through 2020, Camilla interned at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Karen Casper, an emergency room physician. She conducted research on opioid overdoses and Naloxone use in all six towns on Martha’s Vineyard. Camilla also shadowed Dr. Casper in the Emergency Department and Dr. Peter Pil in the Surgical Services every summer. Since graduation in May 2021, Camilla has been working part time as a medical scribe at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA, through a fellowship program. She is also a research coordinator in Dr. Ana Maldonado's clinical research lab at UMass Medical School. Her research examines whether an anti-inflammatory diet can reduce the risk of pregnant women with Crohn’s disease transmitting the disease to the baby.
