Sara (Leandro) Townes
Sara Townes was awarded a 2016 Vision Fellow to support her effort to earn a Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California’s School of Social Work, through its Virtual Academic Center program. During her Fellowship, Sara worked as a Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Counselor at CONNECT to end violence, a program of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. In addition to her counseling work, Sara also modified and implemented two six- session, bi-weekly, psycho-educational art therapy support groups for adult women and adolescent girls who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence. Sara is now a licensed clinical social worker with a private practice in psychotherapy and counseling in Edgartown. Previously, she was clinician with Island Counseling Center, a program of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.
