Eli Hanschka

Eli Hanschka, a 2015 Vision Fellow, is an MVRHS graduate who went on to study Environmental Science and Geology at Colby College. During his Fellowship, he interned with South Mountain Company installing solar panels, the MV Land Bank conducting a trail assessment survey, and the MV Commission working on a range of environmental projects. At college, he held an environmental education internship with Maine Huts and Trails, spent a semester studying abroad in New Zealand, and crafted an independent study focused on avalanche science and safety.

Since then, his job experience has included salmon fishing in Alaska, handcrafted metalworking on the Vineyard, and a season of conch fishing with Vision Fellow Wes Brighton. In his off time, he has traveled with the intention of learning about other cultures, new environments and ways of living in them, and how he can most positively contribute to a sustainable human community. He is passionate about the ability of outdoor recreation and mindfulness to help us lead healthier, more connected lives. A love of immersion in the natural world and the values that have been instilled in him through interacting with such caring, forward thinking communities continue to guide his path. He’s grateful to the Vision Fellowship for the powerful role they have played in his life and the inspiring passion that they bring to meet the Island’s needs.
