Louis Hall

Louis is an Island native, environmentalist and passionate educator. His journey into education began at Adirondack Community College where he earned an A.S. in Biology. He then moved on to his B.S. at SUNY Oneonta where he majored in Ecology and Field Biology. Louis found a distinct love for birding and did his thesis on vocalization of duetting songbirds and its function, in the Costa Rican rainforest.

On returning to his island home, post graduation, he changed route and began his teaching career at the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School. While at the Charter School, Louis enjoyed the flexibility that the Charter school offered him and taught many different high school and middle school classes such as Evolution, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Ethics and Computer Science to grades five through twelve. During his career at the Charter School Louis worked to connect students with their environment and emphasized the importance of environmental advocacy, student agency, and understanding of the impact humans have on their environment.

As a Vision Fellow, Louis earned his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education for High School Biology in 2016 through Lesley University. He now is a Physics and Chemistry teacher at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Louis is also the Faculty Liaison to the MVRHS MVironment club, which focuses on taking care of their environment, learning about local issues, and helping their community by engaging in service and educational projects.
